God Doesn’t Want Me To Have Cinnamon Rolls
It all started with cinnamon rolls on a Saturday morning. My daughter was so enthusiastic for the sweet manna from Heaven that she was about to burst. Stomping feet? Check. Eyes bulging? Check. Shaking at the core? Check. Trying not to scream? check (are you seeing a pattern here?). All we have to do is wait 15 minutes. Fifteen. Minutes. This is the part of the scene where the camera zooms out way above us and the phrase “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” echoes through sky and space to reveal the inhumanity of having to wait for just a foretaste of glory divine.
Waiting for food? It takes forever.
Long lines? Hate ‘em.
Idling at a Stop Light? C’mon! (Where’s the sensor?)
Why do we have to wait? Isn’t there an app for this now? SIGH.
Everyday, I encounter the near impossible task of waiting and the act of patience through many obstacles, trials, snares, and even death traps like cinnamon rolls; however, I am also seeing that this is God teaching me how to wait and be patient. Psalm 27:14 says, “Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.” Notice how it says to waiting patiently…twice.
Psalm 27:14 says, “Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.”
Grrrr. Yep, I heard even you say it under your breath too. You might even be skimming these yammering words hoping to get to the point and quickly (I can read your mind!). The unfortunate truth is that we have to wait on the Lord even in a world where can get answers quickly. Got a question? Just google it or google it up (Thanks, Norman). Need encouragement or prayer? Ask for it in a social media post or text. Want to watch a movie? It’s on Netflix. When we have a big decision to make such as taking that job, who do I marry, when to move on a decision, how are we going to pay these bills, how to handle that situation with a child, a loved one passed away and what do I do now, the truth is we just have to wait. Wait patiently and wait patiently some more.
In the midst of the waiting, God does encourage us to be brave and courageous. How? Why? I believe God wants us to be brave amidst the storms of life and to trust in Him. He knows that not all answers come instantly, and He is producing patience in us because it is sometimes what we need. Otherwise, we could be impatient and make the wrong decision, choose the wrong way, or maybe say yes to the wrong thing. Never make a decision when you’re hungry, anxious, lonely, or tired. NEVER. It’s just unwise. Wait on the Lord, get a good night’s rest before you answer, or maybe even wait a week. Think things through. Pray and trust God to answer you because He loves you. God is for you, and He knows better than you or I do. In fact, God says He is GOOD to those who wait for Him. There is hope for us all! Yes, waiting can actually be GOOD. (Go ahead. Give yourself a pat on the back.)
The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, To the person who seeks Him. – Lamentations 3:25
Our answers may not come in a microwave minute or even in 15 minutes like a cinnamon roll, but God WILL come through and bring the peace, clarity, and the answers you need if we just wait patiently for Him to provide everything we need…even cinnamon rolls.
God’s best is yours,
P.Daryl
